I use AI to oppose the well-polished perfection of realism, no, here we look at AI’s creative madness for an appreciation of its new form of work, warts and all.
Since AI was introduced in the early 2020s (hah! think of our time 100 years earlier when Paris was gay and the first great war was over – yes, soon to be followed by the Second great (let’s make War Great again!) one) – the way the training of the machines has become so sophisticated (I am not arguing here for its rights and wrongs, just the immense power it has evolved with), so sophisticated that the earlier learning models have now become a thing of the past and their clumsiness, bless its intent, has now devolved and replaced with higher accuracy. I had the fortune to exploit the corruptions AI was producing into an aesthetic that was pleasing to me from an angle of misproportion, of forms handicapped by a thalidamide of information from which it created creatures both hideous and beautiful at the same time.
AI managed to take the gems of an idea and to adapt them to thoughts I couldn’t think of until I could put them into juxtaposition and create a completed picture. Here were ideas that I could cobble together to create larger ideas, scenes of strange worlds that may exist in a surrealist mind, a collage of ideas which teased my disbelief into one of reality.
I hope you can forgive my indulgence and enjoy the ride.
