“The Two Monks”
TWO MONKS AT THE TEMPLE OF SILENCE
ALLOWED THEIR YEARLY CHANCE TO SAY SOMETHING TO EACH OTHER NOW CATCH THEIR CHANCE…
1st Monk: “You burnt the onions in the omelette again this morning, in fact you do it all the time!
2nd Monk: So? Why does it matter?
1st Monk: It ruins the flavours of all the other ingredients – you should try not to burn the onions.
2nd Monk: I can’t help it, and in any way, because I do it every time, I like it that way.
Their time alloted to speak was over and the two Monks fell into silence once more, never to speak until the following year. As they parted, they both began to contemplate the two paths of existing, pondering the question: To Burn or No To Burn.
“Bamboo Wall”

I rather like this tale, fiction no doubt but it begs the parallel to rabbits in Australia:
There were no bamboo in Japan before 1000AD apparently – two roots were brought to Japan by a ruler then and planted. It soon became so popular with the many Lords that it was shared around until it broke free and spread throughout the lands and Islands.
The sheer size of this variety is so overwhelming when seen as a forest of bamboo. It can be dangerous navigating through it as bamboo eventually dries out and falls unexpectedly.
The Tale of the Bamboo cutter:
The story details the life of Kaguya-hime, a princess from the Moon who is discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant. After she grows, her beauty attracts five suitors seeking her hand in marriage, whom she turns away by challenging them each with an impossible task; she later attracts the affection of the Emperor of Japan. At the tale’s end, Kaguya-hime reveals her celestial origins and returns to the Moon. The story is also known as The Tale of Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari), after its protagonist.

A rather mundane poer board with its tubes becomes a delight as it dances across and down the wall on this early afternoon.

No matter where you go, the flatland is busy with villages and fields growing food but when the numerous hills are collided with, very few venture into the steep slopes to build or make use of the land and thus they remain virtual forests of trees but predominntly, bmboo, lots of it, and thick and tall. It is a feast of vertical texture, tubes going upwards of twenty metres at times and thick, luscious round hard sections of tubing joined every 60 centimeters or so, reaching higher with each generation.
